Liveblog Social Collaboration Welcome to the Social Software keynote. If you're following along, please leave a comment and say Hi!
Asks us what our organisation's collaboration culture is? Phone, email? Intranet search?
Can you get the best response by an email blast to everyone or a dynamic search of a live site?
Instead of raw cold search results, get the real context of bookmarks added by your colleagues
Innovation and Optimisation to add real value
Inviting Salem Avan, Chief of IT, UN Peace Keeping Operations onto the stage
Saying that thoughts turn to Haiti - many UN people were involved in the earthquake and now with helping
UN PKO challenges - workforce are widely dispersed, in difficult post-conflict situations, significant turnover of staff, collaboration is needed across many UN agencies, funds and programs
Need collaboration on a permanent, long term basis, across many cultures, lauguages and age ranges
Must collaborate with partners, NGOs, governments and other agencies
Did use CC Mail and have had Lotus Notes for what seems like a hundred years, now Connections seems ideal.
Connections - its enhanced collaboration, thats flexible, integrated and intuitive
Lessons of using social software for UN PKO?
Go with an integrated suite
Establish clear ground rules for creating, managing and using social collaboration tools
Allow things to grow organically
People know how to collaborate... Give them the tools...
Integration is vital - between on premise and cloud, portal, Connections and Quickr in a secure dynamic integrated solution, integration with Sharepoint etc.
Now onto Sun Life Financial...
Here comes Thomas Anger - Manager of Collaboration Services.
His internal blog is called 'Anger Management' neat!
Gen Y people outweigh baby boomers, and need to reach younger consumers. Need to leverage the knowledge of the 16000 employees
un Life's requirements:
Existing integrated technology - they already have MS, Jive, Drupal etc. MS and IBM were key options, Sharepoint needed more work, Connections was proven and in the marketplace. Needed to be analytical about all their decisions, and listened to user feedback.
Use a mixture of Conenctions 2.0, Sharepoint and Atlassian Confluence wikis
Initially 300 users, now 2,000
No good just collaborating with people you know, need to find and leverage knowledge of those outside the immediate network, Connections enables that
Now have stories of people collaborating that didn't know of each other 6 months ago
What we learned - inspire your community, executive sponsorship is key, and to succeed - experiment often and get started now! Great advice...
Makes it very clear that IT cannot drive social software adoption - 100% agree.
Now Sogeti - a great case study this one - part of Cap Gemini
CTO Michiel Boreel...
IBM Business Partner, 20,000+ employees, 200 offices and 14 countries, and an inspired customer too
Challenges? To increase the speed on innovation, by engaging the talent of the employees
Advantages that Connections has...
Connections is people centric, Sogeti have information in employees heads - need to get it out, info in documents is already accessible, so needs to be people-centric!
Needs to be scalable and intuitive - Connections is both.
Worked with Internal Evangelists - termed 'Catalysts'
Went to Facebook, Myspace, Linked in and searched for Sogeti - used these people as the catalysts and pilot users. *Great idea*
The benefits:
Linking people together
Unlocking tacit knowledge
Start creating a mindset for innovation
What they learned:
Start experimenting
Can get significant gain without a lot of pain.
Sogetis solution is known as 'Team Park'
Next, Union Pacific Railroad Company - Travis Hall - Director of Client Engineering, IT
50,000 employees
Challenges - they generate and use a lot of data
It is mostly unstructured and in silos - compliance, medical, legal...
Not unusual to print out a 400 page document and then walk over to a scanner and scan it into a ECM solution!
Have used Lotus for mail and apps, so deployed Quickr and Content Management, needed Quickr 8.1 for the new CM features
Use Filenet for records management, fronted with Quickr teamplaces
Lotus Quickr Connectors are used a lot, integrating formal records management with the desktop
5000-6000 Quikr/Filenet users currently, will be extending to HR, Mechanical Engineering
Now adding Connections to help publish the content collected.
Connections Next comes in 2010
Quickr Next will come in 1H2010, Connections 2010 in 2H2010
Showing Quickr next - using new CK Web Editor - new rich text editor...
Showing Domino version of Quickr I think, showing versioning
Bringing spreadsheet in ODS format into Quickr, displays automatically as a list.
Showing downloading of Quickr doc onto Blackberry using new version of client
Suzanne now showing dicussions in Connections Next, showing tags for forum entries and comments, can now have attachments and content in forum entries
Greg again, showing Afresco integration
This is big news, having the Forums as a separate service rather than part of Communities. much more useful.
back to greg showing the Alfresco integration with Quickr
